It's the whole reason why people take courses. Very rarely are they looking to consume content. People are looking to fix a problem or to improve a part of their lives or work. Behavior change is what it looks like when that happens.
How to Measure Behavior Change
Behavior change, while more difficult to measure than completion rates, is by no means impossible. The only real requirement is to look outside your course platform and measure what learners do after consuming your content.
Basic Follow-Ups as the First Step
You can begin with basic follow-ups. Ask learners what actions they have taken post-completion of a lesson or module. This can be achieved through brief surveys sent a few days or weeks later. Ensure you focus questions on the real-world application:

Engagement depth is a powerful metric. Rather than simply tracking how far learners go, measure how deeply they are interacting. This includes the time spent in key lessons, completion of exercises, and careful review of more complex parts.
A learner who is willing to spend time working through a tough concept is far more likely to apply it later on than someone who skims the material quickly. The deeper they engage, the more likely they are to act.
Return rate
Return rate is another important metric. It tracks how many times a learner comes back after their initial session with the course. If people keep coming back multiple times, they likely find the content valuable enough to return to, again and again.
