How to increase participant engagement through healthy competition and motivation to earn points using rankings and contests.

When people see their position on a list, it naturally motivates them to improve their performance. The ranking system helps create a competitive spirit among participants and boosts their activity. To configure rankings or competitions, go to the Gamification, Loyalty menu → Ranking tab.

A ranking is essentially a list of participants, sorted by the number of points they have earned. The more active a participant is, the more points they receive, moving them up the list.

How to Create Individual Participant Rankings

Before creating rankings, you need to activate the entire system. To do this, locate the toggle next to the Enable rating option and turn it green. This will give participants access to the ranking block in their profile on the Dashboard.

Creating and Configuring a Ranking

To create a new ranking, click the +Ranking button.

When configuring a ranking’s activity status, keep in mind:

  • When the ranking is active, participants will see the corresponding block on their Dashboard.

  • If the ranking is deactivated, the block becomes inactive for participants, though all other active rankings in which the user is participating will remain accessible.

The name of the ranking is displayed to participants in their Dashboard as the title of the ranking block. It’s recommended to choose clear and motivational names.я.

Configuring Ranking Participants

When creating a ranking, you need to specify who will be included.

The simplest option is to select All Contacts. In this case, absolutely all contacts in your database will participate in the ranking, both existing and newly added ones. This means the ranking will automatically include new participants without additional configuration on your part.

If you need a more selective approach, you can restrict the participant group by choosing the Specific List. This option provides two methods for forming the participant list:

  1. Static List — formed at the current moment and remains unchanged.
For example, you can create a ranking only for those contacts who were active during the past month.

  2. Segmented List — operates dynamically. It automatically includes or excludes contacts based on whether they meet the specified criteria.

The ranking name is shown to participants in their Dashboard as the title of the block. It’s best to choose names that reflect the nature of the competition. If a participant is part of multiple rankings simultaneously, they can switch between them to view different team rankings using the Change button.

Team Competitions and Rankings

While individual leaderboards foster competition among single participants, team competitions introduce an entirely different level of engagement. They bring people together into groups, creating a sense of shared purpose and mutual responsibility.

The platform also supports creating competitions between teams, adding another layer of competitive spirit. To run a team competition, you must create at least two leaderboards (teams).

You can do this via the Gamification, Loyalty menu → Ranking tab by clicking the +Competition button.

To organize a team competition, you need at least two individual leaderboards that will act as teams. Each team is a separate leaderboard with its own set of participants, and the overall activity of all team members determines its position in the general ranking.

Team competitions have a dedicated management system that allows flexible control of the process. You can pause a competition at any time — for example, to summarize interim results. When a competition is inactive, it becomes invisible to participants in their Dashboard. However, this does not affect other competitions — if a participant is involved in multiple competitions at the same time, all other active ones will still be displayed.

Participants may meet the criteria for several competitions simultaneously.

When configuring a team competition, you can choose which leaderboards (teams) will participate. The All Leaderboards option means that all existing teams at the time of competition creation — as well as any new ones added later — will automatically be included. This option is ideal for ongoing, long-term competitions.

Alternatively, the Specific Leaderboards option allows you to create a competition for selected teams only. This approach helps create more balanced and engaging matchups.

Participants can view information about the competition, their team's ranking, and the total number of points earned by each team.

The ranking and competition system is a powerful tool for managing community engagement. It helps turn passive observers into active contributors, fosters a culture of healthy competition, and motivates participants to keep growing.

The key is balance: the competition should be both fair and enjoyable for everyone involved.
