Learn who a senior curator is, what their responsibilities are, and how to properly assign them to a course.
A senior assistant is a user who helps manage the educational process, coordinates other assistants, and interacts with students. Their role is especially important in large courses with multiple assistants, where a specialist is needed to oversee their work or provide support.
While a regular assistant only works with their assigned group, a senior assistant can see all students assigned to their subordinate assistants, as well as their students if they are also acting as a assistant. For example, if a course has three assistants, each responsible for their group of students, the senior assistant can not only oversee their work but also review all student submissions across the course and assist with grading.

If the senior assistant will be working with specific groups, assign them the relevant groups and participants.
Available participant assignment options:
-
All participants – the assistant has access to all course participants; suitable for courses with a single student stream.
-
Outside of groups – sees only those who are not in personalized groups; useful if the assistant works with “unassigned” students.
-
No access – full isolation from participants; useful for administrative roles.
-
Specific groups – the assistant sees only the participants assigned to them; ideal when there are parallel groups (e.g., for beginners and advanced students).

After completing the setup, don’t forget to click Save.
The senior assistant’s details will appear in the Management tab of the course.
Assigning a senior assistant helps streamline the learning process, especially when multiple assistants are involved. With expanded access and control features, the senior assistant coordinates the team’s work and supports students. Flexible settings allow their role to be tailored to the specific needs of the course.
