Automation: Follow-up email sequences (unpaid orders and applications)

How to set up reminder emails for clients who haven't paid for a course or another product.

You can easily set up a payment reminder email, a follow-up email, or a sequence of emails if a student registered via an application form linked to an offer, or simply visited the offer page but didn’t complete the payment.

To create an automation, select Automation from the top menu and click +Script.

In the event, select Sales – Order – Unpaid Order (Application) and choose which offer the applications should be associated with (or select any offer).

At the bottom, you will see a message indicating that a delay is mandatory for this event — when a client registers, their application is always initially unpaid, as after registration the client proceeds to the payment page, enters their card details, and clicks to pay — all of this takes time.

Therefore, set a delay — the time you expect the client to complete the payment. It could be 5 minutes, half an hour, or a few hours.

In this example, we will specify 15 minutes, while in the condition itself, indicate the unpaid offer.

And then proceed directly to actions: you can add a tag to easily find contacts who intended to pay but didn't complete the payment.

Additionally, you can send them a reminder email or an email offering an extra discount.

If you are planning an email sequence, save this trigger.

Find the trigger in the general list; you can rename it to something more understandable for easier navigation among your created automations.

To add the next step in the sequence, click +Trigger as shown in the screenshot below.

The trigger you created in this way will form a new link in the sequence.

You can add an additional event, or you may skip it and simply add a delay before the condition and a delay for checking if the offer has been paid.

Another action you can add is sending a different email template.

The result is a scenario consisting of two triggers:

Similarly, you can add another trigger to send the next email template.
